International Orchid & Bonsai Extravaganza Johor Bahru

20,000 cut flows and 5,000 plants on display

More than 20,000 cut orchid flowers in creative landscaped designs and over 5,000 orchid and bonsai plants will go up for public viewing during the Johor Bahru International Orchid and Bonsai Show 2009 from August 6 to 9.

Held for the first-time in the brand new fully air-conditioned Danga Convention Centre, this event will be the country’s biggest orchid display with some 40,000 sq ft of space (about the size of a football field) taken up with exhibits. Admission is free throughout the four-day event.

The official launch will be on Thursday, 8.30am, 6^th August 2009.

There are 11 countries are taking part this year - Brunei, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam.There will also be participation by some 40 local groups and organisations. They include local authorities from Kuala Lumpur, Kuching, Shah Alam, Johor Bahru, Johor Bahru Tengah, Pasir Gudang, Muar, Tangkak, Batu Pahat, Yong Peng, Kluang, Simpang Rengam, Kota Tinggi, Johor Tenggara, Kulai, Segamat, Labis, Mersing and Pontian.

There will also be about 50 “open air” stalls at the Celebration Square in Danga Bay selling anything and everything about orchids and bonsai, in addition to food, drinks and entertainment.

'Orchid growers will also get the opportunity to watch demonstrations on orchid arrangements, attend orchid clinics or pick up tips from the experts,” he said.

In conjunction with this show, we are inviting all boaters and yachts to come to Danga Bay and celebrate with us on this event. We suggest that all boaters come in on Saturday (8th August 2009) till Sunday (9th August 2009). Should the response be encouraging, we are also planning to host a dinner party on the 8th of August 2009.
